FURTHER tributes have been paid to a former consultant surgeon who worked at Neath General Hospital and developed services in Singleton.

Michael Chare, a former consultant breast and general surgeon with Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University (ABMU) Health Board, passed away on Saturday, August 3, following a battle with colon cancer.

Paying tribute to his former colleague, Richard Johnson, clinical director for Surgical Services at ABMU, said: "It is with great sadness that we heard of the death of our friend, Mike Chare.

"He is remembered fondly by many of his nursing colleagues from Ward 2 as a doctor who was kind and generous of his time to patients and supported all his colleagues.

"He was instrumental in the development of breast services within the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot localities and would have been responsible for treating in excess of 4,500 cancer patients during this time.

"His extensive experience meant he was a true specialist in his field whose opinion was well respected and often sought.

"Mike will be greatly missed by us all and we send our sincere condolences to his family."
