THAT'S so uncool dude.

A teenage surfing star from Gowerton has seen his preparations for a national tour hit by the theft of his VW campervan.

The 16-year-old who came fifth in the Rip Curl Grom Search Europe Finals in the Cape Verde Islands last summer and has previously competed in the world championships in California is due to take part in the next round of the UK Pro Surf Tour on Monday.

The silver Volkswagen VW, with black strip down the front ,side, back and vdubz on side, was stolen from his drive in Gowerton at 4 am on Monday morning.

First up on his schedule is the Surf Snowdonia Pro Surf Challenge event, which will take place for the first time in North Wales's artificial surf lake on Monday, but the Gowerton pupil now faces having to make alternative costly arrangements for both travel and accommodation following the theft of his customised campervan.

Patrick, who has also represented his country in surfing, said: "Me and my friend Logan along with my dad are traveling up to Snowdonia this weekend to compete in the first junior event in the Snowdonia wave pool. We needed the van to obviously drive up but also we needed the room in the van for the boards and all our equipment because we're traveling straight up to Thurso in Scotland for the UK Pro Tour event, so now we need to either hire a van or borrow my older brothers car which doesn't have near as much space as the van so we may have to leave a board or two at home and some other equipment, the worst thing is that my dad now has to buy for accommodation in Snowdonia because we were going to stay in the van and that's really annoying because I do so much traveling it gets really expensive and staying in the van saves a lot of money."

His mother, Sharron Langdon, added: "Patrick has two UK Pro surf comps next week, in Snowdonia then straight on up to Thurso in Scotland, so his van is vital for him otherwise we have to sort transport and hotels. It is difficult enough to get funding and sponsorship so this is the last thing he needed to happen."

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "The Silver VW Van was taken from an address in Maes y Deri in Gowerton.

"If you have any information in regards to this incident call police on 101, or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 quoting reference: 1600400682."
