THEY were the drink of a generation but sales of the sugary, fizzy, brightly-coloured alcopop are in a massive decline.

Bacardi Breezers, WKD and Hooch were the drink of the 90s and 00s, but sales have slumped by 78 per cent in the last decade.

The market for them could decline altogether, it has been claimed.

The generation of 18-30-year-olds who would order them in their droves at student nights or in night clubs have moved onto cocktails and wines while cider is the drink of choice for the younger generation.

A total of 105,194 hectolitres of alcopops were sold in 2002, but last year it fell to just 22,942 HL.
