AN elderly woman suffered a suspected broken finger when she had her handbag snatched as she was on her way to church.

Police say the 68-year-old victim was walking along Westernmoor Road in Neath at around 10.30am on Sunday when a woman grabbed the bag.

She ran off towards Wellfield Avenue, past Gnoll School.

Although the bag was later recovered, a red leather purse containing cash and credit cards was missing.

A police spokesman said: "The victim suffered a suspected broken finger and was left very shaken."

The female suspect was white, around 5ft 5in, of slim build and with a long face.

She had shoulder-length brown or blonde hair and was wearing dark clothing.

Anyone who can help is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Poor woman it must have been quite upsetting for her, and some still believe in God when things like this happen!
