In 2011, fatalities in reported accidents involving young car drivers accounted for 22 per cent (412) of all road deaths. This worrying statistic is revealed as the government prepares to launch its green paper to combat the issues facing young drivers.

In a bid to ease the worry of parents and to allow young drivers to shed their unruly reputation, Goodyear has launched a pioneering new initiative known as the Driving Academy. The aim of the Driving Academy is to teach children as young as 11 about the Highway Code, before putting their knowledge to the test in an interactive driving experience. By teaching safe driving at a younger age, this revolutionary programme has the potential to save hundreds of lives each year.

As one of the main sponsors of Young Driver, a road safety initiative that gets youngsters behind the wheel, Goodyear are giving away a driving voucher valued at £60. This enables children aged 11-17 to learn how to drive for one hour in a safe and controlled environment.
