S4C is to further fly the flag for Wales by adopting the domain name .cymru

The Welsh language broadcaster will become one of the first organisations to use the new suffix after .cymru along with .wales became available for use over the internet.

Nominet, the company responsible for registering .cymru and .wales, will announce a long list of leading institutions who have committed to changing their domain names from .com or .uk to .cymru and .wales today at the S4C building at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show.

Huw Marshall, S4C Digital Manager said: "As one of the earliest supporters, it's satisfying to see the launch of .cymru and .wales drawing nearer."

Director of content Garffild Lloyd Lewis added: "Switching to the .cymru and .wales domain names across all S4C's online content will reinforce our status and pride as the only Welsh language TV channel in the world.

"With a sizeable and varied list of leading institutions committing to making the change, seeing .cymru used online across the world will raise awareness of Wales as a confident nation who takes pride in her identity and international contribution."

So what ? I don't care what domain name a website uses and I very much doubt if others do either. Will S4C give up their .co.uk domain - of course not and they will link that to their new domain, which means users won't even notice the change or need to make a change to their current settings.
