Millennium Stadium: The Welsh Government is paying £180,000 for a hospitality box to entertain businessmen and women at rugby internationals

THE Welsh Government is spending more than £180,000 on a Millennium Stadium hospitality box, it has emerged.

Website Wales Eye is reporting that more than 70 business people have been wined and dined in the box during international rugby matches since November.

The Welsh Government signed a four year deal for use of the box last year — but initially declined to say how much it was paying.

However, following a Freedom of Information Act request, it has now confirmed that the price is £45,600 per season.

But the website says the Welsh Government is refusing to provide the names of individuals who have received the hospitality at the Cardiff stadium.

First minister Carwyn Jones and Business Minister and Gower AM Edwina Hart gave the go-ahead for the corporate box in July.

A Welsh Government cabinet notice said the box was used to “target companies that have a significant interest in Wales and those businesses that can contribute to the Welsh economy”.

Dear me reading some of the comments below makes me so angry! yes! £180,000 on Millennium Stadium hospitality box is a lot of money. but compare what the The Great British & (welsh) Tax-Payer footed towards the bill for Wembley Stadium some £798 million .. Just as we did for The Millenium Dome, The London Olympic Bid lots of money but anything spent in Wales is attacked by the UN-educated you here the old worn line of the Cardiff's gravy train used isnt that funny with some on here? they must have a selectivet memory and just over look when money is spent in England by the millions isn't it???

Get in the real world, if you want business people to invest in Wales then you have to take them to these kind of events. How much do you think the Westminster government spends on corporate boxes at Wembley or Twickenham?
