Few tribute bands can boast direct praise from theband they are emulating. U2-2 is one such band:
U2-2 were formed by current members in 1993 underthe name 'Achtung Baby'. During the 90's, the the band quickly became theGreatest tribute to U2 in the World.
A Truly 'look-a-like sound-a-like', the band playedevery major town in Britain & Ireland and complete successful tours ofEurope, The Channel islands and the Middle East, many of the gigs were beamedon numerous TV show and live radio sessions, some world wide. The Band playedregular sell out shows in Dudley's, 'Robin' 'JB's' & London, 'Venue' 'Forum'success with sell out shows in Coleraine, Belfast, Sligo & Cork. TheirLargest show in Ireland was performed at the 'Point Depot' in Dublin to over7,000 people in 1997 with Wayne Taylor on Vocals. The band toured Portugal fortwo tours and played to massive crowds of up to 10,000 people per show.
Back in Holland, as Guests of the ZarpenFanzine, the Band got to play alongside U2 at the massive 'Feyenoored Stadium'in Rotterdam. Travelling in Style in their own 'Popmart' tour bus, the bandwere accidentally led into U2's Changing rooms by mistake. Later that evening,the band watched a private rendition of the song 'One' which was being beamedlive to Britain, for that nights Top of the Pops. The Band also posed forphotos on the Trabant cars which were used for the album 'Achtung Baby' albumcover. Free tickets are issed to the band for U2's First Gig in Europe during98 to 99. The Band Play highly successful shows across Britain and travel tothe Middle East to Play 'Diplomats' Hotel, more Irish dates follow, fromBelfast to Cork and the band become regulars at the Dublins 'Olympia Theatre'The Band receive direct praise from Bono and are generally still regarded asthe Official U2 tribute. By Christmas 99' all the Original members to pursuecareers as Original artists.
In Late 2008 Luke Pepper reforms the 'OriginalAchtung Baby' and their first shows are a sell out. Still finding their feetafter eight years away the from the tribute scene, Luke and Steve are joined onvocals by Frank, with Andy taking up the role of Larry Mullen Jnr. The banddecide to change to the name 'U2-2', as nobody likes the name 'Original AchtungBaby' including U2 themselves. Gigs in 2009 are a great success & the bandare chosen by Blackberry to do promotional work for the U2 360 tour. The bandconsolidate gigs in Ireland and once again becomes Eire's favourite U2 tributeshow. On August the 20th, as the part of the pre Don Valley Experience, U2-2play in Meadowhall and are interviewed by BBC1 & ITV1. Lots of people thinkit really is U2 playing and the band pose for countless photos with U2 fans whoare on their way to the stadium.
