SWANSEA'S Paralympics golden girl Ellie Simmonds has a new honour in her sights.
The swimmer could be about to join a list of some of British sport's biggest names on the BBC Sports Personality of the Year trophy.
The double London 2012 gold medallist, who trains at the Wales National Pool in Swansea and studied at Olchfa School in Sketty, is one of 12 shortlisted.
London 2012 champions dominate the list alongside tennis's Andy Murray and golfer Rory McIlroy.
Joining Ellie on the shortlist from the London 2012 games are cyclists Sir Chris Hoy, Sarah Storey and Bradley Wiggins, athletes Mo Farah, David Weir and Jessica Ennis, sailor Ben Ainslie, boxer Nicola Adams and rower Katherine Grainger.
Not a single woman made it on to last year's final shortlist despite a strong year of competition.
The controversy triggered a review of the process for this year's event.
The awards night will be held at London's ExCeL centre on December 16.
