HEY dude... check out this totally radical app!

A Swansea-based surfer has launched an app designed to help surfers ensure they catch the best waves — time and time again.

The app, called Johnny on the Spot, has been launched by entrepreneur and surfing fanatic Ben Martin.

It records the conditions at a surfing spot and stores them on your mobile phone. The information then helps the user make better decisions about when and where to surf in the future.

Mr Martin said he was inspired to develop the idea after attending a Startup Weekend, an event run during Global Entrepreneurship Week, in which teams were challenged to create a business within 48 hours.

His idea for a surf diary was chosen and a team of developers joined him to help make Johnny on the Spot — the Surfer’s Personal Diary a reality.

One of the things that makes the app unique is in the way it allows surfers to guard the location of secret surfing spots.

Users have the option of sharing information but they can also keep it very private.

The team is now developing new versions of the app including the ability to share updates with a select group of surf buddies and alerts telling surfers when their personal, top rated conditions are forecast.

The first version of Johnny on the Spot has launched in the App Store.
