SWANSEA’S Georgia Davies set a new Welsh record in the 100m backstroke at the World Short-Course swimming Championships in Istanbul – but narrowly missed out on a medal.

The Swansea ITC swimmer was in contention to the end but was edged out of the top three by just 0.14secs in 57.32.

The 22-year-old said: “I was disappointed at the Olympics because I gave everything in the heat so when it came to the semi-final I didn’t have much left.

“So for me coming here was about – can I go for best times, pushing myself and can I improve as I go and not give everything at the early stages.”

Welshman Ieuan Lloyd set his third Welsh record in two days as he led off the 4x200m freestyle squad in 1:45.24. The quartet finished seventh.

Pretty fantastic swim! Good to see her leave everything on the table. Maybe she can do some training in an Endless Pool to get on the medal stand next time! http://tinyurl.com/cwupm4w
