Swansea gets set to welcome global runners for half marathon

SWANSEA will be welcoming runners from across the globe for the city's first half marathon this summer.

Runners from Portugal, Switzerland, Canada, Dubai and New Zealand will among those who line up for the JCP Solicitors Swansea Half Marathon in July.

Eleanor Power will be making the trip to Swansea all the way from small town just outside Christchurch in New Zealand.

Eleanor moved out to New Zealand in 2006 with her husband and now has two young sons. She is originally from Swansea and has family who still live in Gower.

"I used to run in my 20s and did a lot of local events in South Wales, my first ever event was the Swansea 10K back in 1999," she said.

"I saw the Swansea half marathon via friends and my brother on Facebook, so we decided it would be cool to do something together.

"I last came home nearly five years ago so I am really looking forward to coming back and showing my boys where I grew up. I think its brilliant that Swansea is hosting its own half marathon."
