A SWANSEA chef is helping to relaunch the Titanic.
Australian mining tycoon Clive Palmer has made headlines around the would after announcing his ambitious plans to launch a copy of the Titanic.
The news was delivered via a press conference in New York but further details will be served up in Southampton, the port where the original ship set sail from in 1912, next week.
Former Pentrehafod pupil Gareth Collins, now a master chef, has been tasked with recreating the Titanic's maiden first-class breakfast as part of the UK launch.
Among the food on the menu will be fried, shirred, poached and boiled eggs, plain and tomato omelettes, sirlon steak and mutton chops, Eindon haddock and smoked salmon.
His father, retired seaman Gordon Collins, said: "It's a gala breakfast in Southampton in the hotel where the original passengers embarked from for the Titanic. The breakfast has taken 12 months to plan, it's going to be a replica of the original."
Mr Collins senior said that his 45-year-old son knows the tycoon quite well.
Explaining his own presence he said: "He's a bit like Howard Hughes. He said it would be nice if they had a few older seamen there for authenticity. He said that his father was one of the first members of the Merchant Navy Association . He said that's great, tell him to get some friends I will give them a table for 10."
