Swansea Valley man in court after attack which left 26-year-old critical

A MAN has appeared in court charged with an attack that has left a man critical in hospital.

Owain Philip Davies, 24, appeared at Swansea Magistrates’ Court for the first time since he was charged by police following the alleged attack on December 27.

He is alleged to have injured 26-year-old Nicholas Watkins during an incident at around 1.20am outside Yates’s pub in Caer Street in Swansea.

Mr Watkins, who suffered serious head injuries during the incident, was said to be in a critical but stable condition at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

Davies, of Ystalyfera Court, Commercial Street, Ystalyfera, was originally charged with causing Mr Watkins actual bodily harm, but prosecuting solicitor Linda Baker withdrew that charge during a hearing at Swansea Magistrates’ Court.

Davies now faces a single charge of causing him grievous bodily harm with intent, a charge which can only be dealt with by a judge sitting at crown court.

Davies was given conditional bail by magistrates and will appear at Swansea Crown Court on January 25.

He will enter his plea at a later date.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
