SWANSEA’S Grand Theatre has completed the first stage of its restoration project.
The auditorium seats in the stalls of the theatre have been re-upholstered thanks to money raised by theatregoers.
In January 2013, the theatre launched a campaign to refurbish key areas of the facility to maintain its position as one of the best theatre in South Wales.
The money has been raised by theatre customers, with their contribution of 50p per ticket purchased at the theatre.
The restoration fund was set up by Swansea Grand Theatre patrons, to provide audiences with the best theatrical experience possible.
Councillor Nick Bradley said: “Re-upholstering the seating in the theatre is a specialist job and we were lucky to keep the job with a Swansea business. Gwydr are a family run business and they have provided a fantastic service to make the seats look great.”
The next stage of the Restoration will be to paint the front of house areas.
In addition to the restoration fund there is an opportunity to purchase a dedication plaque to be placed on one of the seats in the main auditorium for 10 years.
