Swansea City's Danny Graham: Give us a chance

DANNY Graham hopes Michael Laudrup can find room for both him and top scorer Michu in the Swansea City side.

Graham scored only his second Premier League goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 victory at Fulham, in what was just his second start since October 6.

The former Watford man's future at the Liberty has been in doubt after losing his place in the team to Michu, who has switched from midfield to attack and claimed 14 goals in all competitions since signing from Rayo Vallecano in the summer.

Michu missed the trip to Craven Cottage with an ankle injury and, although Graham deputised effectively, the Swans' leading marksman is expected to return to the side for tomorrow's home clash against Aston Villa.

"I don't think I can keep him out of the team — he's done that well," said Graham.

"I'd definitely like to get a few more games with him and play with him.

"He's come in as an attacking midfielder but done a job up front.

"If I get the chance to have a run in the team with Michu I'm sure we could go on and score a lot of goals at the back end of the season.

"But first and foremost it's about the team. It's not about me not playing or how well Michu's done — it's down to the group of boys in there who just want to do their best for Swansea City."

Graham is one of several players Laudrup plans to hold talks with next month, with the manager hinting that a few squad members could be allowed to leave.

Last season's top scorer gave a timely reminder of his ability with an agile volley for Swansea's first goal in the win over Fulham, and he hopes the strike will help convince Laudrup to keep him at the Liberty.

"I'm not the only one out of the team. There are a number of boys who don't travel who were superb for us last season," Graham added.

"I'm sure the gaffer will explain what he wants from us in January.

"I've always said I'm happy at the club so, if the gaffer wants me here and part of his plans, there won't be any reason to leave."

i agree with you hadoken, we are light in midfield when we play both danny and mitchu, but i still feel we can play the two by dropping one of our wing men rather than a midfielder,

I think the issue is when we play michu up front on his own we can use the extra man in midfield. If danny is on aswell we are more exposed and it would be interesting to see the results at swans vs the formation and team we have played. I dont think he is good enough to play up front on his own as he does not strike me as a natural finisher. I think we should give him till this time next year, I always thought danny was a fairly average pl striker, and there is nothing wrong with that as its still a high level. But I like his attitude and he works hard, when someone does that, it shows they care. Of course, we cant run a club where moral dictate results, but even if he only plays in the cups or comes on as a sub, or we give him games once we hit 40 I think there is enough talent there to give him another year in the squad. Then it will be up to him and he will know he has to shine. Getting rid of him now would be quite cold. I say give the boy another year in the squad.

Sensible and modest words from a gentleman. Well done on Saturday, great result.

I'll be delighted if he stays and develops his understanding with Michu. With both of them firing we could go places.
