Store sets sights on charity aid

ALL eyes were on this guide dog puppy Willow when she found her way to Specsavers in The Kingsway on Friday.

The four-month-old golden Labrador, accompanied by volunteer puppy walker David Rees, who is leading Willow through her basic training, turned heads in the Swansea store to celebrate Guide Dogs Week.

Staff handed out balloons and offered spectacle MoTs and repairs in exchange for a donation to Guide Dogs, with working dog Gwen, a three-year-old black Labrador, there too.

Senior manager at the branch, Jayne Corbett, handed over £290 to the charity after emptying the store's pooch-shaped collection box.

She said: "The box is quite an attraction and the children like to come up and kiss the dog. We dress it up with tinsel at Christmas, fangs for Halloween and a Welsh flag on St David's Day, and all those coppers add up."

But a visit from a real thing was even more of an attraction, of course.

"We have a number of guide dog owners among our regular customers.

"For many elderly people, that's their companion. And some of the dogs behave better than humans!"
