A HEARTWARMING drama set in the South Wales valleys is due to return to television screens next week — with a third series already in the pipeline.
Comedy hit Stella, written by and starring Ruth Jones, returns on Friday.
Created by Jones's own independent TV firm Tidy Productions, the second series of Stella was filmed last summer after the first season's debut became Sky 1's most watched comedy to date.
Port Talbot teen Daniel Gammond is also back for the second series which follows the life of a single mother struggling in the Welsh valleys.
The 15-year-old plays the boy who lives next door to Stella, played by Gavin and Stacey star Jones.
His mum Dawn said he really enjoyed filming the new series.
"He loves being part of it," she said. "It is brilliant. Ruth and the cast are all lovely. He is in his final year of school now and he is head boy. He had to go and film every couple of days but luckily it has not affected his school work. I am very proud of him."
Daniel, head boy at Glan Afan Comprehensive School, was picked to play Little Alan in 2011 after attending an audition along with scores of other budding actors.
He had only been going to Mark Jermin Stage School for a couple of weeks when he scooped the role at his first audition.
"They obviously liked him for the part and he was so pleased," said Dawn.
"He had never been on television before. They have commissioned a third series so he will be in that one as well.
"Ruth apparently said they had very high ratings for the first series."
Daniel, who lives with his mum, dad Richard, and brother Joshua at Ascot Drive in Baglan, hopes to continue acting in the future, said he enjoyed working with Ruth.
"You would expect her to be cocky because she is such a big star but she is really nice and really down to earth," he said.
The cast are now looking towards filming the next installment of life in fictional village Pontyberry.
When the news of third series was announced, Ruth Jones said: "I feel that this third series commission is a vote of confidence in Tidy as an established production company that'll be around for years to come."
Jones, from Porthcawl, was nominated for best female performance in a comedy programme for her role as Stella at the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards in May.
The first episode of the new series will air on Sky 1 on Friday at 9pm.
