THE battle for Castle ward heated up as prospective candidates addressed potential voters.
Organised by the Sandfields Residents' Association, the Question Time-style debate allowed six candidates vying for the public's vote to explain why they should be elected as councillor.
The candidates which took part in the debate were Phil Crawford (Independent), Patrick Powell (Plaid Cymru), Alan Jeffery (Liberal Democrats), Fiona Gordon (Labour), Steve Clegg (Green party) and Martin White (Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition).
Chairman of the Sandfields Residents' Association, Alan McNally, said: "Our objective for the evening was to give people the chance to hear from the different parties so they can make a wise choice at the elections.
"I was pleased that a lot of the questions which were asked were particular to the Sandfields area.
"It allowed people to get things off their chest."
At the end of the meeting, Alan Lloyd, who has represented Castle since 1982 and is stepping down at this election, was presented with a certificate for his service to the community.
