A CHOCOLATE factory is aiming to make its energy bills look that little bit sweeter.

Michton Chocolate Factory in Kingsway, Fforestfach, is taking advantage of a new service from British Gas to help businesses stop wasting electricity.

According to the energy supplier, businesses are spending up to £1 in every £2 of their electricity bills on powering their business when staff have left for the day. Data from more than 6,000 smart meter readings shows 46 per cent of business electricity use happens outside of traditional business hours.

In response, the company has launched Business Energy Insight to show businesses how, when and where they are using electricity.

Tony Wadley, from Michton, who has just started using the service, said: "Being a chocolate factory, we have large pieces of energy-intensive machinery, such as chocolate moulding machines and production lines. In addition, we have large areas of lighting which need a lot of power.

"Being able to understand how all of these contribute to our energy spend is going to be really helpful. Hopefully Business Energy Insight will show us where we are wasting energy and how we can become more efficient."
