REMEMBER the Swansea school that cancelled sports day because of dew on the grass? Well, wait until you hear what New Groningen kindergarten teachers in Grand Rapids, Michigan, have decided.
It seems some schools just can’t help themselves when it comes to enforcing their own version of health and safety.
The American school has decided to ban tag - you know, the game where someone is ‘it’ or ‘on’ and has to chase all the other kids until they catch them and make them ‘it’.
Too dangerous according to New Groningen which has also banned all other chase-oriented games.
A letter to parents described the problem of children, “running in packs, pushing, knocking other children over, and making the game dangerous”.
“We want our children to treat each other with respect, kindness, and with safety in mind,” said Ginger Smith, community relationship manager for Zeeland Public Schools, in an attempt to clarify the situation.
Should children be banned from doing anything remotely risky? Or are we wrapping our kids in cotton wool? What do you think?
