SAINSBURY'S has removed a mannequin used as a very odd way of promoting the release of Oscar-winning film 12 Years A Slave.

The mannequin was dressed like Solomon Northup, the main character in Steve McQueen’s film.

It was placed next to dvds and Blu-Rays of the movie, and even had a twig in the pocket, presumably for some kind of authenticity.

A shopper took a photo of the display and posted it on Twitter, leading to condemnation of the chain, which has a branch in Quay Parade, Swansea.

Sainsbury’s subsequently issued an apology and the display has now been removed.
