A PENSIONER has been banned from begging on the streets across the whole of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Cardiff.

Alan Riley, 78, has been slapped with an Asbo that also bans him from swearing at, verbally abusing, or insulting anyone in the three council areas.

Riley has been a familiar sight in Swansea city centre, Port Talbot and Cardiff for many years.

South Wales Police applied for the order which, if breached, carries on conviction a five year jail term, a fine, or both.

PC Alex Bourner said Riley was well-known to officers and had been given “numerous opportunities” to change his ways.

He said: “Unfortunately, as other measures have failed, South Wales Police requested that Mr Riley be made the subject of an anti-social behaviour order.”

The Asbo against the Swansea pensioner was handed down at Cardiff Magistrates Court.
