HINDUS in Wales will be represented by a newly formed organisation.

The Hindu Council of Wales (HCW) has been launched by Communities Minister Huw Lewis.

Its aims are to promote Hindu culture, religion and values; to voice issues that concern Hindus at local and national levels; and to represent Hindus in interfaith work that promotes mutual understanding amongst other faith organisations and their members.

According to the 2011 census, there are 10,434 Hindus living in Wales, almost double the number from 2001. There are Hindus living in every local authority in Wales with the highest numbers in Cardiff (4,736), Swansea (780), Newport (685) and Wrexham (504).

Council chairwoman Vimla Patel said: "I am delighted that HCW has been set up as this organisation is much needed. There are temples and groups all across Wales but until now no one voice to speak on our behalf. HCW will aim to be that voice. It will also promote better understanding of Hindu culture and religion."

Nirmala Pisavadia and Naran Patel will represent the HCW on the Welsh Government's Faith Communities Forum

weslangdon Your dead right about the brits in Spain. I once got speaking to one who told me that she'd moved away from London because of all the overseas incomers and their reluctance to learn English. I asked her if she'd learnt to speak English since moving to Span. No need she said as all her Friends were them self English and she didn't bother with the locals. PS i have nothing against Hindus in particular, although i dislike all religions being an atheist. Another thing i'm not keen on is the cast system, although there is a lot of evidence that this system was actually set up by white people thousands of years ago. Besides who are we to throw stones when the class system is alive and well in the uk, those at the top being of Norman decent.

I take offence to arnoldlane's comment. I think he will find that the Hindu faith is one one of peace; they are vegetarian after all.

They should teach them about integration first as they will not, and don't want to integrate, they want Wales to be like the countries they have come from and councils are bending over backwards for them. GET THEM TO INTOGRATE FIRST BUT THEY DONT WANT TO.
