A LLANELLI mum's dream came true when she married the love of her life two weeks before she died.

Christine Austin, of Llwynhendy, became Mrs Rees at a joyous occasion on February 21 when she wed her love Gareth.

Less than two weeks afterwards she lost her fight with lung cancer, aged 53.

With a network of support, her children Neil, Pete and Jennifer planned the wedding.

Neil said: "We have gone through quite a journey, as you can imagine.

"From the start, it quickly took hold of her. The family gathered in support and looked to the future.

"She had never been married before, but she was with my father for a long time.

"She finally fell in love with Gareth, who she has always wanted to be with. He changed her life completely, he put her back on her feet.

"As our new dad, he has been an inspiration to our mum's new life. He totally made my mum happy."

Originally planned for this Sunday, the family moved the wedding as doctors said there may be little time.

"We were really happy on the day," Neil said. "She managed to get off the bed and into a wheelchair.

"It couldn't have happened without some amazing people that stepped in."

Her children said they were "truly moved by the support and loving generosity" of the people who cared and changed their mum's life.
