A proper good old fashioned adventure that is guaranteed to buckle the most festive swash. This two-part adaptation of John Meade Falkner's classic tale of 19th century smugglers stars Ray Winstone who makes a very realistic salty Elzevir battling to hide his booty on the storm lashed Dorset coastline. Pitting his wits against the wily natives is Ben Chaplin, as ruthless magistrate Mohune who is determined to bring Elzevir to book. A gritty romp.
2. Mad Dogs: The Finale
Saturday, 9pm, Sky 1
Fans who have been following the adventures of our group of middle-aged unlikely heroes will want to tune into this two--part special to see how their misadventures finally end. Without a doubt. the quality of the cast, Philip Glenister, John Simm, Max Beesley and Marc Warren, is the secret to its success. Gathered together for what was supposed to be a sunshine friends' reunion in the first series, things have changed as the boys have faced death and disaster. Now, despite being warned not to, they have returned to South Africa where they face their final and most dangerous challenge yet. A fitting finale for a fine comedy drama.
