WAYNE Routledge played down his goalscoring exploits after bagging a first-ever Premier League brace.

The Swansea City winger was switched to a central position behind Michu for Wednesday's win against West Brom and thrived in the role.

After the Spaniard opened the scoring against the Baggies, Routledge struck twice to put the game out of reach.

First the ball ricocheted into the net after Jonas Olsson blasted it into Routledge's legs, before the former Newcastle winger applied a superb low finish to a Ben Davies cross.

That took his season's tally to four.

Routledge's solitary strike last season was his first-ever Premier League goal in more than 100 appearances.

But the 27-year-old reckons it is Swansea's record that counts, not his.

"I'm not known for my scoring, so it's nice to get on the scoresheet, but it really is far more important to get three points," said Routledge.

"We've been playing well for the last few weeks and we're unbeaten in the last five, so confidence is high.

"It's nice to be playing in a team with high confidence. We feel what we look to do on the pitch is the right way for us.

"Hopefully it will mean more wins and more points."

Wednesday's victory lifted Swansea to eighth in the table and took their points total to 20 from 14 games.

"We need to continue that," added Routledge.

"To be at that tally before Christmas is a big achievement for us. Hopefully we can continue that form and pick up more points.

"We were very satisfied because West Brom are the form team and we knew it was going to be a tough game."

Wayne has gone from strength to strength this season after more or less being frozen out by Rodgers to accommodate Scott Sinclair. It shows how a run of games can develop confidence and Routs has now become an integral part of our team with some excellent performances. Well done to him.
