LLANDYSUL wants to be one of the first villages to use the .cymru internet domain name.

The community council is to develop its own website, to give information on the council's responsibilities and who the councillors are for different areas.

Council chairwoman Eileen Curry said she favoured using the proposed .cymru name for the council's website, rather than the more common .co.uk or .org or even .gov.uk.

Talks are under way to have the new domain name available this May.

Campaigners believe it will give Wales a better identity and help promote the Welsh language.

Lesley Parker, of Solutions Factory, has been asked to look at developing a website.

She said to the councillors: "The .cymru name is not available yet to secure. When they announce it I am sure there will be a race on to secure it."

The councillors were also told that the Welsh Government is making money available for town and community councils to promote their own websites and decided to wait until more details are available.

It doesn't really matter who secures the .cymru domain name, it will no doubt be owned by the GVT in wales, who will then allocate a series of sub-domains to those who want it. i.e. http://tinyurl.com/arbcn8w http://tinyurl.com/abu32zh There will be more than enough sub domains to go around for anyone who want it.
