A FIRST responder team started in memory of a man who died on New Year's Eve, has raised money to buy a second life saving machine.

The Colin Harris First Responder Team is based in Ystradgynlais, and recently held a walk from Cae Hopkin, to Coelbren and Penycae and back, to raise enough for a second defibrillator.

The team was set up in memory of Colin Harris, of Ystradgynlais.

His widow, Delyth Bowden, who has recently remarried, wanted to do something in his memory, said treasurer, Maureen Mountford.

"So she spoke to the Welsh Ambulance service, and they said if we could fundraise, they would train us.

"Communities First gave us the money for the first machine, which a few of us were trained on, but the ambulance said we really needed a second one.

"We've raised enough money for that now.

"Now the next thing is gathering support to try to get the team some T-shirts sponsored, and to get our trauma bag too."
