HYWEL Dda Health Board members have said they are "disappointed and surprised" following reports the Community Health Council has decided to refer plans for the future of health services to Health Minister Lesley Griffiths.

The decision comes following several meetings between the watchdog and the board after the proposals were approved by Hywel Dda last month.

A spokeswoman for the health board said: "We are disappointed and surprised by this referral since we have had a series of constructive meetings with the CHC over the last three weeks and they had not informed us of their decision to refer.

"We are awaiting further instructions from the Welsh Government and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

The controversial plans include axeing Prince Philip Hospital's A&E department and replacing it with a nurse-led urgent care centre and 24-hour medical admissions unit.

A Welsh Government spokeswoman said a scrutiny panel would advise Mrs Griffiths in her decision.

"The minister will now consider the referral from Hywel Dda Community Health Council and will make a decision in due course," she said.

Prince Phillip has been a minor injury unit for years! Ambulances havent been able to take anything serious there for many years. PPH is a joke and certain staff at A+E through their actions have helped bring this situation about!

The concern must be that to some extent the WAG are actually pulling Hywel Dda's strings and that Lesley Griffiths will not reconsider the planned cuts. The Labour Govt in Cardiff needs to remember that they were not elected to push through Tory cuts, either to the Health Service nor anywhere else.

Hywel Dda Health Board have consistently ignored the needs and voices of the people. They should be disbanded. I just hope that the health minister has the guts to stand up to them and truly represent the people of this region. Politicians, local and central, all too often forget that they are in their position because they were elected by the people. It's about time they took a firm stance against organisations such as Hywel Dda and put them firmly in their place. Fingers crossed.

I do not understand why Hywel Dda are surprised. They are aware of the strength of opposition to their plans over the past year. This can only mean that they have not listened to public opinion.
