Hain delighted to meet Burmese freedom leader Aung San Suu Kyi

PETER Hain has spoken of his delight at meeting a world-famous freedom and democracy leader

The Neath MP met with Aung San Suu Kyi, in relation to his former role as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Mr Hain met the prominent Burmese leader at Lancaster House in order to discuss his experience from Northern Ireland on negotiating a settlement to end conflict and establish peace. Aung San Suu Kyi is chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Burma, who was under house arrest after her party won a 1990 general election, until 2010.

    Aung San Suu Kyi is an example to us all, such a brave woman. BTW englishman2 i'm sure she was very pleased to meet Mr Hain, takings into account that he and his parents have fought against evil in the form of the racist government of South Africa for many years.

    Are there still problems in Northern Ireland, I am sure there are and if he had concentrated on one job instead of being greedy and taking three then he may have done one good job. Welsh Secretary Works and Pensions Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
