GWALIA, one of the largest housing associations in Wales, has said it plans to participate in the Domain For Wales Founder's Programme meaning it will be among the first organisations in Wales to adopt the new .wales name for its website.
Formed in 1973, the non-profit provider of housing, care and support, has a strong Welsh identity – its very name is an old Welsh name for Wales. As such, its chief executive said the change reflects its values and its roots.
"We are proud to be a Welsh company, working for the people of Wales," said Michael Williams, chief executive of Gwalia.
"Our roots are in the housing association movement and community action. We have grown to become a £64 M turnover organisation employing over 1400 staff and now work in 18 of Wales' local authorities providing services for people, not profit. The .wales domain is a chance to wear that commitment on our virtual sleeve for all the World Wide Web to see."
