A SWANSEA rugby league team will be raising money for kits at a Tesco bag pack.

The Gower Gladiators were set up last year by former Wales rugby league player Dave Norman, following his retirement.

During their first season, Dave sponsored the team himself, buying new kits for their first foray on to the pitch.

But this season they are taking part in fundraising efforts to help come up with the cash.

Mr Norman, who is head coach, said: "We're holding a sponsored event on March 29, in Tesco Fforestfach, where we'll be back packing from 10am.

"It's very hard to get funding for Rugby League, so we have to raise money ourselves."

Last season, the team came third in the Welsh Conference junior league.

"We're going to win this year," said a confident Mr Norman. "We came third and made it to the semi final in our first season.''

The team is for players aged 18 or under.
