Focus on poverty to ease ill health

POLITICIANS and academics will pore over the census results for weeks and months to come.

Today the Post follows Wednesday's coverage on the key findings with a focus on health.

With the Welsh Government spending more than 40 per cent of its total budget on health, 20 per cent of us now aged 65 or over, and experts warning of rising liver and obesity issues among the young, preventative health strategies must be high up the political agenda.

Resources must focus on clearing explaining these strategies to the man and woman on the street.

The link between deprivation and poor health also needs to be a key focus for Wales's leaders.

The Welsh Government is considering a new health bill, and said people in deprived areas often had a "deep insight" into what causes poor health in their community.
