MUMBLES Motor Boat & Fishing Club took 14 anglers to Cefn Sidan, Pembrey, on Sunday on the first of their regular fortnightly trips.

Good conditions during the day saw good numbers of flounder and bass caught.

The top three anglers on the day were John Goulding, Richie Hollis and Denise Collier, while the best fish of the day went to John Hill, a bass of 3lb 6oz — see picture right.

Meanwhile, Gower Rockhoppers' Winter Open sea fishing competition is being held this Sunday. It takes place from the George pub in Mumbles.

The fishing time is 7.30pm to 11.30pm, with anglers asked to meet one hour before start time opposite the George.

It's been a very good week at Shimano Loomis Fishery, Felindre, with some excellent catches.

Although it's been very cold in the early mornings, fish seemed eager to chase most patterns that were put in front of them.

The Bridge Pool has produced some good fish, and the Finger has also fished well.

Killer flies recently have been mainly mini-lures mini-cat, Montana and ace of spades. A few fish have been taken on buzzers around midday.

Victor Hopkins landed four fish for 25lb 6oz, all taken on Montana. Mervyn Briggs had a good day, landing three fish for 16lb 5oz.

Glethyn Mapstone had an excellent day, landing six fish for 39lb 7oz, all taken on mini-cat. Bill Bradley also fished a mini-cat to take four fish for 28lb 2oz.

Tony Gibbs fished ace of spades to take four good fish for 29lb 7oz with a best of 9lb. Jack Wilkinson fished mini-orange lure to take three fish for 18lb 4oz.

Rob Jones landed four for 25lb 9oz, all on mini-cat. Jason Gibbs landed three for 17lb with a best of 8lb, all on mini-orange lure.

Alan Turner bagged four for 26lb 5oz, all on mini-cat. Dave Fox fished red buzzer to take three good fish for 18lb 12oz, with a best of 8lb 6oz. Mike Hall fished bloodworm to take three for 16lb 6oz.

At Papermill Fishery, Fforestfach, heavy rain and cold weather has slowed the fishing down, but some anglers have had great catches, with Gareth Morgan landing a superb 9lb brown trout caught on a hothead damsel.

Trevor Thomas also caught a cracking 5lb brownie on a diawl bach. The fishery is also taking names for the Boxing Day fly competition.

Fly: Craig Thomas, three fish 9lb 11oz caught on orange fritz. Nigel Walters, three fish 9lb 8oz on damsel. Peter Watkins, three fish 9lb 3oz on black and green fritz.

Worm: James Smith, three fish 9lb 6oz. Bill Williams, four fish 9lb 11oz. Lee Collins, three fish 9lb 8oz.
