A CAMPAIGN has been launched to protect Neath's town centre post office.

The Post Office is looking to find retail partners for 70 of its Crown branches across Wales including those in Morriston, Carmarthen, Neath and Port Talbot.

Bosses say they have no plans to close any of them — but they are looking for a retailer to help continue and modernise the services in the towns.

Cimla councillor John Warman has now started a petition calling for the Windsor Road branch to be left unchanged.

"A lot of people agree with me," he said. "They were queuing up to sign the petition.

"They said they had known nothing about it until they read about it in the Evening Post and they were shocked.

"It's a gradual erosion of services as far as I am concerned."

The Post Office is currently operating at a £40 million annual loss.

It says it is committed to having a crown post office within any area where it could not find a partner.
