THE family of a young Gorseinon woman who died on holiday in Bulgaria have spoken of their shock — and their need for answers.
Nina Holmes collapsed in a bar in the ski resort of Borovets on Monday and was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.
The body of the 22-year-old — a member of Gorseinon’s famous fairground and traveller family — was due to be returned to Britain last night.
A family spokesman said: “We don’t know what happened and we are waiting to find out from the authorities in Bulgaria.
“They are bringing Nina’s body back and that is the most important thing for us right now.
“Everyone is so upset — it’s a very difficult time.”
Miss Holmes flew out to Bulgaria a week ago today for a ski holiday with friends and her partner, Dean Herbert.
But on Monday evening she collapsed in BJ’s Bar, and paramedics were called.
It is believed a number of other clubbers in the resort were also hospitalised on the same night, and Bulgarian police have launched an investigation.
A spokeswoman for Bulgaria’s Ministry of the Interior confirmed a local woman had been arrested in connection to the incident.
Borovets is around 45 miles south of the Bulgarian capital, Sofia, and has a reputation as a party-town.
South Wales Police said they were aware of the death, and would be working with the Swansea coroner when the body was repatriated.
Miss Holmes’s boyfriend, Mr Herbert, took to social media site Facebook to pay tribute to his partner.
He wrote: “Nina you’re my world, superstar. We just bounced of each other and loved every second of being with u xxx.”
Friends also left their tributes on the site.
Leanne Crole wrote: “The right words can be so hard to find. Simply know that we are thinking of you at every moment.
“We send you our heartfelt prayers that you find the strength you need to get through each day. X”
Harley Bianca Lilly Cave posted a message saying: “Absolutely gutted thinking of you all! So sorry — she was such a lovely person!! Rest angel xxxxx”
