A Carmarthen family has been reunited with its beloved pet dog thanks to Facebook users in the town.

Scrappy went missing from a small-holding in Henfwlch Road, outside Trevaughan, on New Year's Eve after being scared by fireworks.

In a desperate bid to track down the family pet, Caroline Fenemore posted a picture on Facebook with a plea for help.

It was shared by fellow Facebook users more than 50 times, resulting in the family finally being reunited on Thursday morning.

"It was all done via Facebook," said a relieved Caroline.

"It was an incredible response and not just from people I know. He was gone three nights, we were in such a panic, I've been in a real state about it."

Scrappy had been picked up at 3am  on the A40 between Abergwili and Whitemill.

"He had gone five or six miles," said Caroline.

"He was found on the main road.

"It was pouring with rain and the man who found him nearly ran him over.

"If this guy hadn't have picked him up he said he'd have been run over, so it's all thanks to him."

The man who rescued Scrappy found out about the Facebook appeal from a friend. He wants to remain anonymous.

Scrappy is now home safe and well.

"He's fine, I think he's had a great time," she said.

"There was a very lovely guy who picked him up. I think he thinks he's been on holiday.

"The gentleman who found him had horses and said he'd been playing with his dog."

Caroline, who has two young children with husband Sam, said she had learnt a lesson from the experience.

"He was micro-chipped," she said, adding: "but if I'd had a tag with our contact details on his collar that would have saved me two days of hell."
