Mid and West Wales (MAWW) fire crews dealt with a number of grass fires in South Wales this weekend.

On Sunday, shortly after 3pm fire fighters from Pontardawe were called out to a grass fire on Heathfield Road. At the same time crews from Port Talbot crew extinguished a grass fire using beaters in the area of Cwmavon.

Elsewhere crew from Abercrave dealt with grassland fire in the Ystradgynlais area just after 1pm.

On Saturday four hectares of grassland was destroyed by fire on mountains above Seven Sisters. A grass fire was also the cause of a lot of smoke on Saturday evening as crews dealt with a grass fire on Mynyddbach Common.

Grass fires ? Of course, it's the middle to end of March. Somehow, the fires seem to spontaneously combust. It's nothing to do with farmers.
