THE 21-year-old killed in a road crash in the Neath Valley has been named by police as student Luke Mortimer.

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses following the tragedy.

Officers said an M-reg Audi Coupe was in collision with a silver Rover in the Neath Valley during yesterday's evening rush hour.

Mr Mortimer, from Crynant was the driver of the Rover, died after being taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

Two passengers in the Audi were also injured.

The road was closed for around seven hours while police carried out initial investigations and recovered both vehicles.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision at approximately 5.10pm on Thursday on the B4242 Resolven to Glynneath road – known locally as the old A465.

"An orange M-registered Audi Coupe travelling northbound towards Glynneath was in collision with a silver 51 registered Rover, which was travelling southbound towards Resolven.

"As a result of the collision the 21-year-old male driver of the Rover, who lived locally, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.

"Two male passengers travelling in the Audi sustained injuries and are currently being treated at Morriston Hospital.

"A police family liaison officer has been appointed and is supporting the deceased's next of kin. The coroner has also been informed."

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit in Lakeside via 01656 655555 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

It's a matter for the law, now, Turbojungle. If you know anything about this bloke in the Audi, tell it to the police. It's nothing to do with free speech - the matter is sub judice. The Evening Post cannot print it or it would be in contempt.
