SWANSEA housing association Coastal is in discussions and negotiations with a number of retailers and companies regarding available space in the £25 million Urban Village.

A spokesman for the development in Swansea's High Street said: "Last year, the Mosaic bar and bistro opened its doors in the Urban Village and is reporting a good response from local people.

"We are due to complete fitting out further vacant units here soon and expect to see take-up of these progress in spring."

The news comes as Swansea has featured in a list of the top 25 worst performing town centres across the UK for vacant shops.

Research by the Local Data Company revealed the city's shop vacancy rate was 25.3 per cent for 2012, up 1.7 per cent on 2011.
