CHRISTMAS has truly arrived in two Neath Port Talbot communities.

Festive events have been held in Melin and in Cwmavon.

In Melin, Santa joined the crowds in Bowen Street in Melincryddan to watch deputy mayor of Neath, Mark Fisher, flick the switch for the Christmas lights.

The occasion took place outside of the Melin Advice Centre, with staff members dressing in festive Christmas outfits.

Musical entertainment for the night was provided by Melin Primary school pupils.

James Mewer, of Melin Advice Centre, which helped organise and fund raiser for the event throughout the year, said: "It was truly tremendous."

Scores of people also attended Cwmavon's Christmas Cracker event.

A festive parade with Santa travelled through the village and Briton Ferry Silver Band provided the entertainment, along with young singer Manon Ogwen Parry.
