SWANSEA Council could be set for another round of voluntary redundancies.
Cabinet members were this evening being asked to approve plans to reduce the workforce in order to make essential savings in the coming year.
If given the go-ahead officers will be able to seek expressions of interest for voluntary redundancies or early retirements from selected groups within the authority.
More than 200 people have left the authority through the scheme in the past two years.
A report written by Steve Rees, going before members, said: "As a first step to try to achieve significant staff savings in 2013/14 and to reduce the necessity to consider compulsory redundancies at this time, it is proposed to see expressions of interest from management, supervisory and admin/support roles for voluntary redundancy and/or early retirement which would be effective from March 31, 2013."
Frontline staff and those in "operational posts" will also be invited to apply, but it will be linked to the "strategic future direction" of services, it added.
This is the third round of early retirements and voluntary redundancies in Swansea Council.
Over the past two years the cabinet has approved officers to seek expressions of interest from select employee groups. This resulted in 116 applications being approved in 2010/11 and 96 in 2011/12.
The short-term cost of the project, such as the statutory redundancy pay-outs, will be funded through the council's contingency fund.
The report added that the scheme was not "open door", as the importance of retaining certain employees' skills will be taken into consideration.
Officers will also be able to continue the early retirement scheme for teachers in schools.
