IT’S a big idea that is paying dividends for residents in Neath Port Talbot.
Social landlord NPT Homes has been working alongside residents as part of its Big Idea Project, which gives people a chance to have a say about what improvements are needed in their area.
Staff from the community regeneration team revisited Sandfields to gather feedback and to discuss plans for the area after an initial community survey was carried out in January.
The team was tasked with analysing the information to understand what already exists in the community and to find out what could be done to address the improvement needs identified by residents.
NPT Homes’ community regeneration co-ordinator Nicole Barnes said: “As a result of the community survey, it was clear that residents felt the bin storage areas and parking provision needed improving.
“When we returned to Sandfields we provided residents with draft plans of what could be done to the area.
“The session was a great opportunity for residents to meet and share their views with us so that we can deliver on what is needed to make a difference to the community in which they live.”
Sandfields resident Debora Morgan said: “It’s great being involved in the decisions that have an impact on our community.
“The work NPT Homes is doing is fantastic and it is bringing the community closer together.
“I’m really looking forward to the changes as it will make this area a better place to live.”
The community regeneration team, who so far has been responsible for the annual community challenge project and the young social entrepreneur scheme Project Eye, will now take all the comments from the Sandfields residents and implement them into the plans to helps meet the needs of the community.
