AN elderly woman in Port Talbot has been left shaken up after her bag was snatched.

The 86-year-old was at the subway which links Lingfield Avenue with Avon Way near Neath Port Talbot hospital when the incident occurred on Monday at about 1.35pm.

The small navy or black handbag contained a mobile phone, a large amount of cash, two purses along with gas and electricity cards.

Police officers who are appealing for information have released a description of the suspect, who is male, of large build, in his early 20s and around 6ft.

He was wearing light coloured tracksuit bottoms, a light blue jacket/coat and carried a large bag on his back.

Following the theft, the suspect fled down Lingfield Avenue and Lorraine Close and was last seen at the junction of Lorraine Close and Vivian Park Drive.

 Call police on 101.
