Angel praised for kindness

SWANS star Angel Rangel has been thanked for being a Good Samaritan to Swansea's homeless population by braving the snow to deliver them food.

The 30-year-old defender revealed he was inspired by his wife Nikki to make the heartfelt gesture to those suffering the most in the freezing temperatures out on the city's streets.

A nun from the homeless shelter on The Strand in Swansea, which is run by Missionaries of Charity, set up by Mother Teresa, said they were grateful for his support.

She said: "He brought five or six sandwiches.

"People bring often bring an amount of things.

"He said could we take them.

"We would like to thank him for his donation. We thank everyone who brings something."

Spanish-born Angel called on followers on the social networking site Twitter to help him find those who were homeless and of desperate need for a bite to eat.

The couple's kind act won widespread support from people from right across Swansea and beyond.

Angel said: "Anyone know the location of homeless people in Swansea? I got food going spare! #randomtweet"

He added: "Thanks so much for the suggestions. It was @MI55Y_28 idea so we are driving around.

"Terrible to be out in this weather."

Swansea Sound DJ Kevin Johns was among those who congratulated the star for what he and his wife had done.

He said: "God Bless you Angel and your lovely wife! An example to all."

Swansea entertainer Mal Pope added: "Good lad! Angel by name Angel by nature."

His good deed on Friday night attracted the attention of many fans and Twitter followers.

Harry Nye tweeted: "#Respect to Angel Rangel and his missus for this! Driving round Swansea giving food to the homeless out in the snow!"

Pete Cashmore took to Twitter and said: "So basically, Angel Rangel of Swansea City is currently out in the city delivering food to homeless people. WOW."

Matthew Wallace added: "In a day and age where footballers are painted as selfish, @arangelz is currently driving around Swansea giving food to the homeless #hero"

Rhodri Jones tweeted: "How many other PL footballers would be driving around their home city on the night before a match delivering food to the homeless?"
