A 20-YEAR-OLD man who became "agitated" at being accused of being a rapist has been sentenced after punching a man.

Dean Alli, of Kenfig Place, Bonymaen, admitted causing Michael Davies actual bodily harm.

The pair were drinking in the Old Duke pub in High Street, Swansea, when Alli became "agitated" by accusations being made towards him.

When Mr Davies told him to "leave it out" Alli threw one punch to his face, leaving him with a 2cm cut to his forehead which needed stitches.

Alli was acquitted by a jury at Swansea Crown Court of a single count of rape in October.

Catherine Richards, representing the father-of-two, said: "He was upset about what had taken place and he wanted to apologise to the complainant. It was borne out of the distress of what he was accused of." She said he had been under "considerable strain" waiting for the trial.

Judge Thomas, sitting at Swansea Crown Court, said: "Whatever the background, there's never any excuse for doing what you did, taking it upon yourself to punch someone."

He imposed a 12-month community order including a supervision requirement and thinking skills programme.
