If you’ve secured some much-needed time off for a holiday, the last thing you want is to discover every other family in the UK had the same bright idea. Some destinations are perfect for families, teens and screaming toddlers and some destinations are all about relaxation and adult only fun.

For any grownups in search of the latter category, Thomas Cook the travel specialists, have put together this list of adult friendly destinations which are perfect for a relaxing summer holiday away from the children.

1. The Dominican Republic

More than just your average poolside resort, the Dominican Republic makes for the perfect adults holiday. With hundreds of miles of coastline, warm and friendly locals, serene mangrove lagoons and bustling cities like Santo Domingo, there’s much to love about a holiday to the Dominican Republic.

If relaxing beach holidays with a cocktail in hand are more your thing, you won’t be disappointed either– but if you’re on the prowl to see a bit of local colour and culture too then the Dominican Republic can deliver.

Take a trip to the historic San Felipe fortress, visit the Brugal Rum Distillery and see the Amber Gallery. Best of all with the range of cheap Dominican Republic holidays on offer, you can afford to get there without denting your bank balance.

2. Cancun

Definitely not a children’s destination, Cancun holidays are a party-goers playground. This unassuming fishing village on the Mexican coastline has developed into one of the world’s must-see party towns, rivalled only by the likes of Ibiza and Las Vegas.

Best of all, with the miles of stunning coast nearby, you can spend the daytime relaxing – and perhaps recovering – from the evening’s mischief.

3. Skiathos

The Greek island of Skiathos is a stunning grownup holiday destination, boasting a relaxed atmosphere, stunning weather, beautiful beaches and a lively party scene. It might be small in stature, but Skiathos doesn’t let size hold it back.

During the daytime be sure to explore the rich local history and sample the delectable cuisine. Take a stroll through the lush pine forests and beaches and be sure to make the most of the incredible array of water sports.

When the sun goes down, the Skiathos pace picks up with an endless list of clubs, bars and restaurants, all open until the early hours. Be sure to keep an eye out for affordable last minute holidays in Skiathos, with plenty of excellent package deals available all year round.
